`We still haven’t been able to prove it. We will investigate that allegation. The Government Oversight and Reform Committee has asked us to investigate that allegation,` Reuters quoted Mr. John Sopko, Special Inspector General.
Mr. Sopko’s office is in charge of investigating issues related to reconstruction activities in Afghanistan.
The former President of Afghanistan, along with a number of close officials, dozens of bodyguards and soldiers, boarded a helicopter to leave the capital Kabul on August 15 right before Taliban forces occupied the city.
To this day, there are still many speculations about Mr. Ghani’s escape.
However, Mr. Ghani has denied these accusations.
Mr. Ghani is the official president of the Western-backed Afghan government.
Recently, local daily newspaper Hasht e Subh suddenly cited well-informed sources to reveal details of Mr. Ghani’s escape journey.
The next day, a secret plane picked up Mr. Ghani and his entourage to the capital Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In Afghanistan, since the Taliban took control, the situation in the country has become worse.
Afghanistan is currently in a severe cash crisis, leaving workers unpaid, forcing local companies to close and banks to limit withdrawals.
