(Dan Tri) – Senator Kamala Harris is the first woman of color and the first person of Asian descent to be chosen as the US vice presidential candidate. She will run as a running mate with Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Mr. Joe Biden chose Senator Kamala Harris as his vice presidential running mate.

Reuters reported that US Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden announced on August 11 that California senator Kamala Harris will be his vice presidential candidate.

`I am honored to announce my selection of Ms. Kamala Harris – a fearless warrior, one of America’s finest public servants, as my running mate,` Mr. Biden wrote on Twitter.

Mr. Biden’s election campaign said that Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris will appear together at a campaign event taking place today, August 12 in the city of Wilmington, Delaware.

With the above decision, Ms. Harris became the first woman of color and also the first Asian American to be a vice presidential candidate on the US election ballot.

On her personal Twitter account, Ms. Harris commented: “Mr. Joe Biden can unite Americans because he has spent his whole life fighting for us.

Ms. Harris, 55 years old, is a lawyer and politician of the American Democratic Party.

Mr. Biden was under great pressure to choose a woman of color as his vice presidential candidate after racial protests shook the United States in recent months.

Reacting to Mr. Biden’s selection of Senator Harris as his running mate, President Trump said at the White House press conference that he was `surprised` because the relationship between Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris was not smooth.
